XL Fleet (XL) announced that it is opening a 25,000 square-foot research and development center in Wixom to help enhance its ability to provide sustainable electric technologies for the commercial fleet industry.
The Boston based company provides fleet electrification services as well as other electric technological services. XL Fleet has worked with organizations and organizations such as Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Isuzu, The Coca-Cola Company, Verizon, and Yale University.
CEO Dimitri Kazarinoff said the company’s expansion into Michigan “marks a great milestone for the company.”
“An important element of our strategy is to continue adding breadth and depth to our best-in-class engineering organization to develop the next generation of electrification solutions needed to scale the business,” he said in a statement. “We are very excited to expand the company’s footprint into this highly strategic location, where we will be well positioned to add capacity to the exceptional talent we already have in house.
XL Fleet will hold a grand opening ceremony on Wednesday with corporate executives and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The 47000 Liberty Drive facility comprises a component test lab with a vehicle chassis dynamometer, an electronics lab, and battery testing equipment.
The firm expects to hire at least 50 additional Michigan-based team members at this new site, its fourth countrywide, over the next three years.
